I had never heard of Mercy Ministries until I was invited to their gala fundraiser at the Sheraton Hotel in Surrey several years ago.
During this evening, I listened to Nancy Alcorn, the founder of Mercy Ministries speak, and her words and passion resonated with me.
I felt inexplicably drawn to this ministry.
I knew that this was a ministry that I wanted to support and be affiliated with. Over the years, I followed the progress of Mercy Ministries here in Canada as they secured a property and prepared to open their home in Surrey, BC. Little did I know then that God was drawing me to this ministry on behalf of my niece, Sascha.
Over those same years, Sascha’s life had spiraled out of control to the point where she knew she needed a breakthrough; and not help from any regular institution, but one where the name of Jesus is proclaimed, and where every girl is treasured and accepted unconditionally. That place was Mercy. Sascha was accepted as one of the first residents in the Canadian home, and today, she is living for the Lord, and is ready to begin her new life and to impact others for Christ.
What a day of celebration as I was able to share in the joy of watching my niece, Sascha, graduate from Mercy Ministries! It was truly a miracle to see the transformation in her life from one of bondage to one of freedom in Christ. What an incredible journey it has been, and as we look back now, we can see God’s hand in the entire situation.
Beth Murray and her husband Glenn, sponsored a room in the Mercy Ministries home and looked after spider monkey for 8 months while Sascha pursued Freedom at Mercy. Sascha Graduated May 3rd along with her new found friend Rachel.

So wonderful to read these stories of hope, love and God’s might & mercy! As I recall my day at Mercy in Feb. when I was there teaching a meal planning & nutrition class, Sascha stands out in my mind for her vibrancy & passion, especially about spicy food if memory serves me right! She was a pleasure to begin to get to know as were all the other great girls! Congrats again on the graduation Sascha and Rachel!
Such a fantastic story. Brilliant how God works. Love it.
All I can say is God is soooooooooo amazing! He knows the end from the beginning and can make divine connections. May God bless whoever it was who invited them to the gala in the first place; they’ll share in the heavenly reward.
